014【女同性戀lesbian】： lesbian是指女性的同性戀者。
lesbian源於古希臘的一個小島的名稱Lesbos。這個小島位於愛琴海、土耳其西北沿岸附。公元前7世紀，Lesbos島以其抒情詩人而聞名，在這些詩人中，最著名的是女詩人Sappho（莎芙），有些她的詩是描述關於女人之間的愛情。至於莎孚本人是不是一名女同性戀，或者她只是一個描述女同性戀的詩人，我們不得而知，但因為這樣的關係，莎芙主義（sapphism）便成為了女同性戀的另一個稱呼。而Lesbian 本意指居住在該島的人，但19世紀末，醫學界開始用lesbian來指跟莎芙有同樣性傾向的女性，後來就被廣泛使用。
在台灣則常使用與lesbian發音相近的「拉子」、「拉拉」、「蕾絲邊」或女同志來稱呼女同性戀者，拉子最早出現在作家邱妙津的女同志小說「鱷魚手記」一書，於1990年代開始普遍成為女同性戀社群內部用來指稱自己的術語。
在女同志族群中，「T」指特質傾向陽剛，或外表喜歡作男性化、中性化的裝扮者，T這個稱呼一般認為是來自英文的Tomboy。而「婆」則指裝扮、行為、氣質女性化的女同志，婆這個詞是相對於T而來的，意思就是T的老婆。但目前有越來越多人認為自己既非T也非婆（不想接受刻板的性別形象）。T、婆相當於英文中的 butch 與 femme。
018【出櫃come out】：向大眾公開自己性傾向的意思。
Closet 原意是指衣櫃，常被引申為「不可告人的」。同性戀者若不願意向大家公開同性戀的身份，他們的愛人通常也不能公開，所以會被稱為closet lover，就是秘密愛人，也就是把自己的性傾向放在衣櫃裡不願公開。
Come out就是「出櫃」，也就是從closet裏come out，也就是向大家宣佈自己性傾向的意思。出櫃的數量會隨著社會對不同性傾向者寬容程度的提高而增加。
不出櫃的人，例如男同志，有些人甚至會跟女性結婚生子以掩飾自己的性傾向，英文的說法是：「He is straight- acting。」就是說他其實是同性戀，但是他的行為卻跟異性戀無異。
